New energy battery coolant liquid level monitoring

Liquid level switches have a wide range of applications in vehicles. Coolant level switches that we supply for new energy vehicles of a domestic joint venture car enterprise is one of the typical applications, which is used to monitor the liquid level of coolant in the power battery cooling system. If the coolant level is lower than the minimum height, it will alarm and remind the driver to replenish coolant in time so as to ensure the proper functions of the battery and the vehicle.

In recent years, our country has strongly supported the development of new energy vehicles. Influenced by technological development, industrial policies and consumer environmental protection concepts, sales of new energy vehicles have increased year by year. The power battery system in vehicles provides the necessary electric energy. During the charging and discharging processes of a power battery, electric energy can be converted into mechanical energy and thermal energy. If the heat accumulates in or around the power battery instead of being released reasonably, the temperature of battery will rise, further impacting the performance, life and safety of battery. Therefore, new energy vehicles are equipped with a cooling system for the power battery. The water-cooled power battery cooling system is a relatively common cooling method. Heat generated by the power battery can be transferred to the coolant flowing in the pipeline inside the power battery, thereby decreasing the temperature of the power battery.

Our liquid level switch has been installed at the bottom of the expansion tank of a power battery cooling system, and it matches up well with water tank to prevent coolant leakage. We have designed a signal trigger position of the liquid level switch according to the shape and size of water tank based on our client’s requirements. When the coolant level in the expansion tank gradually decreases with the consumption of coolant in the cooling system, the float ball in the water tank descends as well. If the liquid level is lower than the lowest point, a magnet in the float ball will close the reed switch in the liquid level switch, triggering an alarm to remind the driver to replenish coolant. If the coolant level is above the lowest point, the reed switch is open while t the float ball moves away from it and the alarm signal is then dismissed.
